What would you like to see more of in Vinyl?

What sort of things would you all like to see in vinyl? I apologize if a topic like this already exists

For me, I want to see more 1/3 female bodies. Maybe this sounds kind of ridiculous since it’s basically the hobby standard but there are really only two options atm: Volks and SmartDoll. Also technically Obitsu since 50 cm dolls can work for a short 1/3 girl.

Granted Volks already has three different DD body types with unique torso sculpts but it would be nice if there was more variety. I get a bit of envy when I see the variety of choices resin owners have lol

I love that we are getting more vinyl companies but theyre all making MDD-esque dolls which are cute but not my particular preference. I know Imomodoll had a 1/3 female in the works but that would be a while from now.

Probably not surprising (especially coming from me, lol) but more boy/angel bodies. Specifically ones you don't have to jump through hoops for, ones that you can just buy. Imomodoll are definitely taking a step in the right direction.

I'd also like to see some other companies try catching up with the Kumako trend and make some cute pudgy/chibi 1/4 dolls. Imomodoll has and honestly that should probably be enough for me, but I can't get enough of them in resin either 🤪 There's a ton of clothing made for that size too, so it would just make sense.

I would like 1/6 YoDD in vinyl with nice faceups. I know Tiny Fox and Imomo have been doing this, but I don’t like their face sculpts/faceups enough to get one (and TF isn’t vinyl iirc), also I don’t want to pay the extra cost to get a custom faceup.

I have to echo the opinion from above, boys, boys, boys!

Esp the 1/3 scale variants of slender-ish boys between 62-68cm ... still waiting desperately for Imomodoll to finish theirs.

Would also definitely not say no to more cute 1/4 scale boys either.

I really just want boys. And also varied body types for the boys and different skin colors too, with dark skin that's actually dark or fantasy skin colors. It's disheartening to find new companies and they're just making more girls and in lighter skin tones that other companies already have, although it's good for hybriding. Even the existing companies are either lacking in a male doll or male dolls are too limited.

I just want two things: One is more varied skin tones (kinda like SmartDoll somewhat has), so you don't have to dye a doll in order to make it anything other than semi-white. I just don't want to be forced to dye a doll in order to make a darker skinned character. The other is easily accessible boy bodies. I love Volks dearly, but you need to work to get a boy doll and that stinks, so I was content with just getting the flat chested MDD girl and calling it a boy. But hey, at least my Imomodoll boy body is gonna be on its way soon ehee....

I agree with OP.  I would love some other companies to produce more in the 1/3 scale, since I am also not very interested in MDDs.  We have some new contenders like Dollbot producing exclusively the MDD size, and it's a shame.  Volks really has close to a monopoly right now.  I need to be able to buy replacement bodies, blank heads, extra wigs, etc, so Shoe doll is not viable. 

I would like to see Tawny added to Dream Choice, and Dollbot get into 1/3 scale. 

Would absolutely love to see more dark skin tone options! Smart dolls seem to be some of, if not the only vinyl dolls that have them available regularly. It’s genuinely the only reason I would ever consider getting one due to the lack of options from Volks and others but I unfortunately don’t see this changing anytime soon…

I'd love to see girls that are actually muscular or curvy or chunky!

Boys are always a popular answer and I'd have to agree. I'd also like to see more variance in the boy heads that are on offer. It seems like neither Volks nor Danny Choo have really hit a stride on making distinct, interesting boy sculpts that aren't collabs with other IPs.

Yes, I would love if Volks made tawny base bodies + blank heads! If they made a tawny DD standard model that would be epic!!

 

I have a smart doll cocoa, but I would love to see smart doll make a mid town brown like coffee with cream (several months ago they hinted on making a coffee skin tone, but I'll hold my breath on that). 

I would like to see:

1 - angel philia heads in 1/3 scale

2 - more companies with 1/3 scale adult bodies (bigger competition)

3 - resurection of 1/3 obitsu adult female with update

4 - Mattel (or Hasbro) joining to world of 1/3 scale with some regular 1/3 scale line of dolls (maybe Disney line?, they have license back) = note: I dont mean it as cmpetition to this hobby, rather as another market with different target audience but still in 1/3 scale

4.1 - 1/3 scale clothes from (from Mattel/Hasbro/whatever company in regular toystores)

5 - second genration of cortex as succesful project and as full DIY kits just like gundam kits (even cutting from frame just as was final boss grade kit) (not vinyl but I understand the gundam and figma isnpiration) 

6 - mobile app for dolls (also not vinyl thing I know)

7 - Volks EU Dollpa event(s?) at least one in year

8 - Bad people turning into 1/3 scale dolls (sorry, was possesed...)

9 - getting new doll every year under my X-mass tree at least or for B-day and/or doll for vacation/summer time

Tawny is so pretty I wish Volks would make it a standard color or at least what they do with tan in dream choice. Also gotta second you on the more body types, I would love a more curvy or chunky girl!

I also want more tan/darker skin options and boy dolls as well. I'm surprised Volks hasn't made a tan or male standard model yet! Or at LEAST include the base bodies and parts available online instead of through dream choice only (or just have an online option for dream choice, even if it's only like a once a year short period or something). Imomodoll has been doing great with making widely available tan skin options, as well as a 1/4 and 1/3 male model (and for an affordable price too!)

I hope more affordable options like Imomo become popular as well, I think it would help increase competition in pricing!

I desperately want more vinyl heads with narrower eye holes, especially for Dollfie Dream! Imomodoll just released Tiamat which I’m extremely excited about, but I crave more 😄 

Disclaimer: I'm new to the hobby and only own 1/6 dolls so far. My opinions aren't that well informed.

1/4 vinyl dolls with mature/adult bodies. Apparently they're called slim MSDs by resin doll owners. The closest thing I've found to what I'm looking for is Dollbot, though they're intended as sexualised MDD replacements.

1/3 is too big for me, and I don't want to dress a 1/4 child doll in sexy clothes. DDP/Obitsu50 is an option but they're more like teen 1/3s than 1/4 adults.

More widely available dark skin tones would be great, too. Volks Tan is rather pale compared to SmD Tea or Cocoa. Angel Philia tan is the only option available if you go the Obitsu route.

Have you seen Azone’s AZ02 body and the upcoming Obitsu GGR? If you don’t mind dolls being 50cm tall, I think they could work great for you! They’re both mature looking bodies at the same height. AZ02 is a hourglass curvy body and GGR is a more realistic “fuller” figure (not quite in chubby territory but thicker than the original Obitsu).

Imomodoll also has a 1/4 scale girl body (Miko) that looks pretty feminine and mature too! Especially if you opt for the bigger bust size! That's the closest to a mature looking 1/4 scale vinyl doll that I know of outside of Dollbot.

As @chantelle mentioned, the AZO2 and Obitsu GGR bodies are quite mature, but even more so are the Angelphilia dolls. I wouldn’t blame you for passing on them because they’re not for everyone (certainly not for me), but they definitely look more like 1/4 adults like you want.

Your post sent me down the AZ02 rabbit hole as well... Looks like they can fit into DD sized clothes too! I will be sewing for my dolls rather than buying clothes so my main concern (apart from size) when buying a larger doll is whether or not I can find plentiful sewing patterns for them.

However... A 50cm doll will still be difficult to stick in a standard backpack, and I might as well get a DDS (55cm) if I'm going that big.

@RozenGermain Miko looks cute but I don't think she is what I'm looking for. Thanks for the suggestion though! ☺️

There are some users here that style them more modestly (decora/Harajuku fashion seems to suit them really well) and they can be really beautiful, but they look out of scale next to DDs and even other 48cm/50cm anime-style dolls due to the semi-realistic faces/tiny head combo (and body blushing and proportions of course).

AZ02 dolls should be able to fit clothing for DD S bust or SS bust. They are proportionally busty (well the G ans I bust are) but they are small in comparison to DD sized dolls so I am under the impression M bust or larger may be too big. 

I do own both a DDS and DDP and I would say there is a pretty significant size and weight difference. DDP is probably easier to bring around (not that the DDS is particularly cumbersome).

If we are thinking on terms if what size would give you more bang for your buck when it can’t fit into your backpack, definitely the DDS. Theres more clothing you could get or make for it. I’d only go 50cm if you really love the size or sculpting of the body.

@meteorite Have you seen the Ellowyne Wilde dolls? They're vinyl dolls with roughly the same proportions as a slim MSD resin doll. They aren't anime style, but you could possibly put a different head on the body. Unfortunately, the company that made them has closed down, but they're still available second-hand. 

My personal wishes are pretty much what other people have said - more skin tones, more body shapes, and more boys. I especially want to see male dolls in the SD13 boy size (like Eiji). So far, most of them seem to be either the same size as the girls or massively larger. I really hope the Imomodoll 65cm body or the reworked SmD guys will be in that size.

Sorry to necro the thread but.... If Obitsu is gonna go through with that 1/3 scale girl body, Smartdoll and Volks will definitely see a worthy competition (hopefully) for that kind of doll! I also second the tawny thing! I wish I could just BUY darker skinned than fleshtone dolls from Volks though (I hate that their selection of accessible skintones has only light tones), rather than have to go through Dream Choice. I personally don't know how I will feel about a 1/3 scale doll till I get one personally (I preordered a BJD 1/3 scale head so I'll find out soon lol), but I know that it has to suck for vinyl fans that like them when there are like, two companies that make vinyls in that scale.... Also yeah Dollbot is a promising company, so 1/3 scale dolls (and boys) would be something I'd like to see from them. The main thing I wanted to mention is the GGR Obitsu since the quote is mainly about non-Volks non-SmD 1/3 scale dolls and how there are next to none out there.

I'd like to see Volks commit more to the DDP rather than half-bake it like they do right now. 

Obitsu covers this well, but having the biggest player fully support that form factor would spur on a lot more clothing, accessories and mods like we see with the MDD. 

It's not hard to find stuff that fits, but there's a big difference between something that fits and something that's designed specifically for that body. 

I would like to see more fantasy parts for vinyl, fantasy bodies similar to fairyland, wing parts, horn parts, kitty and bunny ears. Just more stuff. I would also like to see volks release things like their 2B and dollfie icon sculpts as blanks that can just be bought. They're just stunning and I would love to see more availability to customizers.
