How long to test for fabric staining?

Recommended Posts

stars

Hello! I made some new socks and arm covers for my miku to replace the Volks pleather versions.

The main body and trim are polyester. I wrapped a replacement hand part in the fabrics overnight to check for staining and they were clean this morning. Is this long enough to check for staining, or should I wait a couple days?

A test over night is at least good enough to confirm that the fabric isn't a stain monster and should be safe for a couple hours (e.g.for a photoshoot). If you plan to leave your clothes on the doll for longer, I recommend testing for about a week. I often throw a bit of scrap vinyl in between the folds of new-bought fabric. - This way, once I get around to using it, the stain test is usually already complete.

You can also put a rubber band around the fabric-wrapped hand.  The extra pressure will expedite the staining if there is any.

In my experience, polyester fabrics have been generally stains safe, but it never hurts to make sure.

Also make sure to test your sowing threads! They can be the source of stains just like the fabric.

Good note on the thread and rubber band! I'll do a re-test with the hand replacement part for a week. Thank you for the reply
