Torn between two dolls for Amelia from Slayers

Hi, all. I'm seeking opinions on a dilemma I'm having. For about a year now, I've been wanting to customize a DD to be Amelia from the anime "Slayers."

I've had a doll I wanted to use, but haven't gotten around to making her outfits or styling her wig yet. She's a standard Mirai. I even brought her to Dolpa last year.

I love her sweet face and the fact that she's already got the black hair/blue eyes combo. But there are a couple of things that I have had reservations about. The first being that she's a standard DD, whereas Lina is a DDS, making Amelia taller and bigger overall. When I stand them side by side, it's not too noticeable a difference, but it's enough that I had considered getting her a new body so they'd match each other a little better.  She also has  semi-white skin, and she looks a tad ghostly when I stand her next to Lina. It's not overly noticeable in photos, but the difference is there.

I was still going to make it work, but then I came across the new Hanaumi Saki DDS on the Volks site, and I immediately thought she might be a better candidate as a base.

She's a DDS, so more compatible size-wise. And she has flesh colored skin which suits her character design better. And I kind of like her spirited facial expression.

But of course, there are drawbacks, too. One of course, being the cost. I'm a preschool teacher, so I'm not exactly making bank, and she's around $500 USD right now. I received quite bit of Christmas money this year, so it'd be doable. But there are definitely more practical things I could use that cash for.

The second issue may seem a little silly, but I figure doll people would understand: I feel a little disloyal about replacing my current doll as Amelia. I'd still keep her and love her, but she's been Amelia for as long as I've had her, and to give her a new identity feels weird.

I'm at a loss, so I'm seeking advice: do you think one doll works better than the other for the character? And would it be worth getting Saki vs making my current doll work?

Any input would be much appreciated!

Assuming you customized the doll on the right even a little bit, I think it would be worth continuing with your project! The Saki doll is available through lottery so it may not be guaranteed, and if you're only using the body you'd probably have to turn around and sell whatever you're not going to use from her anyway. In the long run, you could still consider getting a new flesh body and head for Amelia, and Mirai could have a makeover for someone new. I don't think she'll mind either way.  Good luck, and I hope my comment helped.

Sometimes a vision doesn't work out and that's ok!

There's also nothing wrong with allowing yourself to change up a doll. My first doll ever was my OC for over 10 years and then one day I decided to make him Sora from KH and gave him a complete makeover. I still love him lol. It happens.

If the new doll matches your vision better, you could always enter the lottery for her. If you win, you can sell the wig/outfit/eyes if you aren't going to use them ever. Then that money you get back can go toward customizing both of your ladies. If you don't win and can't buy her, you can either keep attempting to customize the one you have (knowing it isn't an exact fit) or buy a new standard head and body in flesh that can match the vision better (and will be a little less expensive). An identity for Mirai will eventually form, I promise!
