Dfordolls Posted January 31 Hello! I'm new to this forum and I go by the nickname "Hamsters" or "D" I really want a smart doll and I'm currently saving for one! I'm an ABSOLUTE beginner and I'm pretty sure nobody in my area has ever HEARD of a vinyl doll so here I am! I do't know how to assemble, purchase or use a doll. They were just really pretty. I basically ransacked the website but I do not understand any of the building instructions. Also I need somebody to talk about my awesome dollies with! XD
sunlightandtea Posted January 31 Welcome! I really like smart dolls too, but don't worry, it's almost impossible to buy them disassembled so you'll probably get one that's ready to go when you get there. If you buy direct from smart doll, assembled is the only option. As far as using them... It's up to you! Lots of folks like taking pictures, making their OCs from their dolls, creating clothes, or whatever! I really just like buying clothes and stuff and dressing mine up for the seasons (spring, summer, winter, fall, Christmas, etc). However you get the most enjoyment out of the hobby... That's what you should do! ⸜(*ˊᗜˋ*)⸝ Have fun!
Dfordolls Posted February 18 That's cool! The doll I'm going to get is practically identical to my OC, (I'll have to switch out her eyes though), so I'll definitely keep that in mind! I enjoy sewing, (and want to learn to kniT) so she could be my model:D. Thank you! P.S I just noticed your from Texas which is where I am too! That's so cool!
sunlightandtea Posted February 18 I'm in the same boat! I've got the wig and eyes for my OC, I just need to sit down and sew her outfit. Happy sewing, fellow Texan! 🤠
Beansproutmomo Posted February 18 Hello fellow Texan, and welcome! Vinyl dolls are great, and this forum is a wonderful place to learn more about them. Number 1 thing I would watch out for is staining. Just as someone else who is newer to vinyl, be careful! LOL I collected resin BJDs for so long, then tried out some vinyl dolls but forgot they stain easily. If you have an outfit you want to use that is darker or more pigmented, I suggest setting the dye as much as possible. I soak my little outfits in a water, soap, and vinegar bath for 20-30 mins, then wash wish soap again until the water runs clear. This worked great for me, and I've left dark outfits on my Angelphilias for months now without staining. We have a doll meetup every month down here in San Antonio, if you are near that area! It's been so great being able to chat with other doll collectors, and see other kinds of dolls in person. 😄
