Should I wash this outfit?

I've been wanting to put my Sasara's school uniform on her but because it's bright pink and red I am terrified of it staining her. I know it's inevitable but I really would like to prevent it as much as possible. She has a bodysuit and the top and skirt both have an inner white lining but the sleeves don't so I'm worried it could stain her hands,, and it has black stockings too. But I also worry about damaging the outfit or the colours fading, especially since the aftermarket for it is a lot more than the retail price I paid 💔 so is it worth trying to wash the excess dye out, or will the bodysuit be enough to protect her ? 

I have the same outfit but it's the default one for Tamaki.  I had heard that they can stain so I took the set, put it in a delicates bag and tossed it in with my regular clothing on a normal wash cycle.  Once done, I took them out and let them air dry for 2 days.  Tamaki wore it for over 2 weeks with no staining.  Granted, I didn't dare use the black stockings because those things always stain no matter how many times I wash them.  I used another similar set that I know don't stain.  

My only worry is that Volks may have used different dyes with the new outfits compared to the older ones like mine.  If you have any spare busts or other body parts around then I'd test the outfit on that first, before washing or putting them on Sasara.  You may get lucky and the new ones don't stain but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I'm afraid she's my only doll so I don't have anything I can test it on 💔 I might try handwashing them and just pray it doesn't affect the colour much. Do black stocking tend to stain through bodysuits ? I have heard that can sometimes happen. Worst case scenario I may just put her in the outfit for photos and then take it off, sucks cause I would've liked to have her in it for at least a little while but I don't wanna risk getting stains if she wears it too long sobs 

Has anyone tried retayne on the black stockings? Also interesting, since I have black stockings on a few with no staining.. could depend on the material? Either way you could try retayne on the whole outfit. A lot of people have successfully tamed stain monsters with it

I’m pretty sure the new uniform doesn’t stain, I have been wearing it for a while with no stains. I’m not sure about the socks, they didn’t stain with the body stocking and I wore them for like a week.

The old version stains around the collar and skirt. I noticed the white fabric under the skirt turned red also but it’s not discolored on the new version.

Good to know ! I can't see any staining on the lining of mine either so I think it should be okay. I plan on buying more clothes for her soon so I think I'll look for some white or skin coloured socks to go underneath the black ones as an extra barrier since they have no lining.

No clue for these ones, I could try it but I'm also worried about messing things up and ruining it 💔 definitely an option though. I have no clue what material they're made from but it's quite soft and silky

Ah then perhaps not a compatible material. I know it can't be used on everything. Some people have used vinegar to varying degrees of success. Might be a bit safer. Or we just hope it doesn't stain lol

I don't own this exact outfit, but if it's any consolation, I did have a Volks brand outfit with black stockings (that I did zero dye reduction treatments on) over a Volks body suit and did not have any staining, even after pretty prolonged wear. YMMV particularly if you're in a very humid place, but worst case scenario, stains can be treated. If not, it's really easy to get replacement shell parts from Volks. I really think you'll be just fine with the bodysuit.

I've never had anything stain through a body stocking before so I think you'd be safe there.

Thank you both ! I think I am just overstressing lol she's just so precious to me I don't want anything to happen to her, but is inevitable if I want to truly enjoy her, and she deserves to be loved to the fullest ❤️ I'll just hope the bodysuit protects her from any major stains which it should

That's a good way to look at it, methinks. And if it helps, there are a ton of posts on this very site that can walk you through stain removal, should she eventually get one.

You're welcome.  And don't worry too much about staining.  It *will* happen no matter how much you defend against it.  Stains used to drive me nuts and I'd do treatments as soon as I noticed one.  But now, not so much.  I'll definitely treat them eventually but until then, I see them as badges of merit for the dolls.  It means they actually go out, do things, get dressed up in all sorts of outfits, see the world and make you happy instead of just being shelf queens. Of course there's nothing wrong with being a shelf queen, to each their own.  But for me, I want my girls to be out and about and see things alongside me while looking their best.  Don't be afraid to take her out and do things just because she might get stained from an outfit or something else.

That's a good way of looking at it ! It's proof that they have been loved ❤️ I'd love to someday take her out places and show her the world, I love seeing photos of people doing things with their dolls or oshikatsu at cafes, it looks like so much fun ! Much better than her sitting on a shelf forever (or even in the box forever like some people do,, if that's what people enjoy then good for them but I personally couldn't get any enjoyment outta that lol)

Wise words as always, Billy! Something I'll be thinking about this too next time I stain a doll (instead of cursing xD)
