Shino's hair makeover?

Recommended Posts

Larkness

Hello! I finally received my Shino just yesterday and I'm having some doubts re her hair.

First, her bangs:

When I just got her I noticed her bangs were under her eyelashes and it looked bad, so I trimmed like, half a centimeter just so the would rest right above the eyelashes. 20260901_093303.jpg.26c5dcbf38920d1dd267e1c8876740df.jpgThe thing is, the longer I see the promotional photos, the longer I notice how thick her bangs are, compared to the whispy ones on the stock photos.

Solo I was thinking I could thin them out so they don't look so heavy. Only one small problem: I have no idea how to do that and I'm scared of leaving her like Cynthia from the Rugrats 😭. Any tips?

Lastly, braids!

Her braid are a taaad messy, not too much but I'm thinking that maybe I could let her hair loose like this stock photo: shino-maid13s.jpg.7d0cb4d9deb7e3376c11f16280e87cf2.jpg

Buuut I'm a bit worried because I think her rooting is a bit sparce? At least in comparison with my Azone Shiho (they have similar names lol) and I don't know if it may look that good.

Has someone done it before? And if so, is it easy to rebraid her hair?

Kindly,

An anxious first-time Obitsu owner 🫠

You can do this by cutting vertically or using a scissor comb (a special tool that’s a combination of both scissors and a comb). It’s the same technique used for thinning human hair, so maybe you can find videos on YouTube explaining the process? Otherwise, take her to your hairdresser and ask them to help if they’re willing.

I’m way too chicken cut my dolls’ hair so I cheat a bit by using hair products for dolls to style their bangs. The easiest thing to do is shape them into a M pattern (a thick layer in the middle of their forehead with the rest parted off to the sides so you can see their eyebrows). Azone does this a lot in their promotional photos if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

If the rooting is sparse, undoing the braids should make her hair look fuller.

Braiding is one of the easiest hairstyles to give a doll imo, but you might not be able to part her hair down the middle as cleanly as Obitsu did.

There’s two ways to (re-)braid that I know of—the easiest is to split her hair into two sections (right and left) and then braid each of those. The second way I know of is a bit more complicated and involves splitting the hair into three sections and taking hair from the middle section in a zigzag pattern right and left to add to the other two sections. The second method is better for sparse hair because the zigzag hides the bald spots better.

You can see what I mean in this video. These are pigtails, but you can just braid each side. It also shows how to split the bangs into a M pattern like I mentioned above.

If you don’t know the technique for braiding itself, just look for a tutorial on YouTube.
