Cortex release schedule

Seems like its bye bye to cortex forever, now that the website has cleared out all their cortex shells and frames. 

Is it still going to be used for licensed dolls? 

No idea. I get the feeling that Cortex is gone for both licensed and non-licensed dolls.

Such a shame! Cortex was a cool idea, wish it had been less expensive in the end!

At the very end of this Instagram post, Danny mentions a "Cortex 2"... we'll see what comes of it, but I have to admit I'm curious if this really will "fix all the issues that version 1 had" or just fall by the wayside like some other projects. Either way, I figured I should mention it at least.

The hand looks like cheap plastic, but maybe that's an intentional finish given that the arm looks very cybernetic?

I would like to see cortex revived. I wrote a long post about it a few years ago on my blog here, it's a good material. Very sturdy and fun to pose, but it looks like the design he has for his version two arms are already going to suffer from the same cracking the version one arms did, in particular this small piece here. I understand the desire not to have seams up the arms, but it would result in a sturdier forearm build if he did that, or if he extended that piece upwards significantly.

Just my two cents. Excited to see where cortex 2 goes, it was a very fun concept and, in my opinion, a very good execution despite it's version one issues.

 

But the plastic looks a little bit less thin, 

I've a Cortex, mine broke too, the plastic over the elbow joint is really fine, and on a pressure point a breakage is unavoidable

It's returning as a series of cyborg/cybernetic parts for regular Smart Dolls. Arms are being released first with more to (potentially?) follow.

Also planned are STL files so you can customise the weapons your doll hides in its arm.

Looks like they are planning full dolls again, not just parts.

Face plate system reminds me of Nendoroids & Unoa dolls. Hopefully face plates are cheap and plentiful so you can create lots of different expressions to give your doll.

While I'm optimistic about the new Cortex (it seems like a major improvement on Old Cortex), I really really hope they aren't planning to phase out vinyl or anything like that. I still haven't gotten a Pear girl, and I probably won't be able to until the end of the year at least. I have no reason to believe vinyl would get phased out, especially since the pear body is so popular and they don't appear to have a Cortex version in the works yet, so this is of course just my anxiety talking.

Cortex 2 looks REALLY COOL actually, I just don't know how I feel about having the two competing lines. Hopefully Cortex is unique enough (and more Gunpla-esque, maybe?) that it will have its own audience and this won't be too much of an issue. Not to mention, I like the idea of Cortex-vinyl hybrids (those arm gun parts are wicked cool ngl) so I guess we'll see about that.

It's looking like Cortex 2 will have its own niche audience because of the cyber aesthetic it is going for, I've seen a few people who are not really into even with the vinyl bodies that have the cyber lines. So it def won't be replacing the vinyl line and instead will be geared towards people who like DIY or cyberpunk stuff.

I'll probably get a couple myself since I do have some robot or cyborg like characters that would suit it quite well. Now what I would personally really like but know would never happen (rip) Cortex boys, now that would be pretty cool lol. 

 

Honestly this is everything I'd hoped for with the first cortex release and I'm sad and disappointed that so many negative things have come to light about Danny because otherwise I'd be incredibly excited and interested.
