First Ddh -01 mod and faceup

Recommended Posts

I did my first doll mod (ddh-01) and anime face up yesterday!

I have a question if anyone can answer- to get that nice smooth look, do faceup artists use paint thinner or just water down the acrylics? I’m thinking of wiping this and trying my hand at it again this up coming weekend.

This is a custom doll of one of my characters btw!

I can't answer your question because I struggle with that issue as well. But you did an amazing job!! 😍 I'll be trying my first attempt at an anime faceup when I get a DD and I hope it turns out as well as yours!

Cute design!  Love the :3 expression and adorable round eyebrows.  Excellent job for your first faceup!

For thinning paints, I would recommend using an acrylic thinner.  I've used Liquitex Slow-Dri medium in the past with decent results.  You could use water but it tends to bead up, making it difficult to make thin lines.  At least on resin it does; vinyl is also water-resistant so I imagine it would react in a similar way.  :-?
