50cm Obitsu question

Recommended Posts

aquilla429

I have my custom dd on an obitsu 50 body, but for the longest time I have had no idea where the neck attachment is or what it looks like. At the moment, I literally use a chopstick which goes through the whole torso, then poke the head on top. It works, but obviously completely removes any torso movements of the body.

I would like to get a greyforce neck adapter, but I think I'm missing the neck piece altogether. At the moment my internal frame looks like this:

Now if memory serves me right, there should be another part on top of that piece. I think it might be this part I'm missing:

My question is, am I missing a piece, if yes, is it the above piece I need to buy?

I don't think you're missing a part, the default neck joint (and the Grayforce) simple slides down into the top part of the skeleton. I'm not an expert on the internal frame on the Obitsu/Parabox bodies but looking at the Parabox site they don't list any more parts for the upper frame than the one you have.

Thanks so much for the quick response. I've just gone and looked at one of their auctions and you are absolutely right, it slides over the part I already have. I always assumed it would attach to the weird 50cm neck piece. That's what I get for not really looking ey.

Thanks for your help!

I think you're missing the piece if your head just slides down on the neck piece...

I know you can do it that way, but that screw piece is so freaking fiddly. It's how I lost the piece in the first place!

Thanks for your help!

Glad to be of service!

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Grayforce neck pieces though, gives you better neck movement than by modding the Obitsu neck piece. Grayforce's replacement DDS/DD3/MDD3 neck pieces are awesome as well, I use them on all my girls. ^^

You buy them on yahoo Japan auctions, but make sure you buy ones by grayforce. Some other sellers make similar devices, but I hear they aren't as reliable and are prone to break.

I am SO glad to know this. Having the MDD S bust on the Obitsu 45 body made it so the neck piece that came with the body was useless. Its just way too big to fit inside the Volks bust. So my solution involves a piece of sewing elastic and a popsicle stick. Trust me, it's not a good solution.

Are the neck pieces very expensive? For how things are looking, I'd need 6 for our current DD that I'm trying to get finished this year. I agree that the Obitsu neck joint and that screw are really annoying.

The replacement piece Waha is talking about can be found on YJA under the seller named Grayforce. He makes custom neck joints that allow you to use the DD heads on the Obitsu bodies quite easily. I was chatting with him last night about this and he showed me the part on auction. The seller usually has 2 of them available at any one time so if you need 6 of them, you'll have to wait a few days for him to re-auction more.

As for cost, the neck piece itself sells BIN on YJA for 1700 yen each. Depending on the service you use to buy it, shipping and handling will run another 1500-2000 yen making the overall cost between $30-$40 or so. Not too bad considering how nice these neck adapters seem to be.

Thanks Baldylox! I knew about there being 2 available at once and I only really need them for the bodies I want to use the MDD S busts on. I would like to get all 6 eventually so all the Obitsu bodies will have them and the better head posing. Thank you for the price estimate, it makes it a lot easier to know about how much to budget.

Actually, if you need more than 2, just ask your auction deputy to contact the Grayforce when you purchase them. I did that with From Japan and used BIN to get 2, and they requested 2 more from him and it worked fine. ^^

I used shopping mall Japan to buy my neck piece. The price I paid was $33, that was the item price, shipping to shopping mall Japan, shopping mall Japan's commission fee and shipping to me in the UK.

I am very happy with it and if I ever needed one, I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I have an idea I want to test soon to see if it will be a stable and good solution. The cost might be a little less, but mostly I'm doing it because it will be a lot more convenient. The only thing in question is the strength of the neck piece stick when it comes to posing the head. I'm also considering my options on making MDD ankle replacement pieces, but the only issue so far has been the color matching. After I found both of Tama's broken because of the stupid design, I knew how I'd do it differently and now I'm finally getting things together so I can. Even if the pieces aren't the right color it's not a problem if the MDD wears socks all the time.

If you take the Obitsu neckpiece apart, you don't need any adapters. But many people prefer the adapter.

Just saying it is not a necessity.

It's really not difficult at all to use the Obitsu neck piece with either Volks or SQ Labs heads on a 50 or 60cm Obitsu body - as you can see here;

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6851#p106593

BTW, the total assembly time for Kei was less than 20 minutes - including disassembly, and setting up/taking the pictures.
