archangeli Posted June 19, 2012 i can confirm what archangeli says. my ddh06 2011 head is soft too. was a real pain when i was puttying the eyes on ShinegamiX - you are not making sense to me: - my ddh06 2011 head is soft too - was a real pain when i was puttying the eyes on If anything the soft head caps make putting eyes in easier since they head caps are easier to remove. (And of course the DD06 is soft vinyl They were first released last October!) But whether a DD has a hard or soft vinyl head doesn't affect how difficult it is to place and position new eyes into the head using Volks putty or silicone ear plugs. Nekopon Posted June 19, 2012 I only have the newer models... I'll have to try that sometime! Thank you!
juu-yuki Posted June 19, 2012 I got frustrated with the 06 >l I like the hard heads more. I don't mind that the cap is soft but why did they have to make the head soft too? Putting the eyes in using putty is actually a real pain. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
Innocentsake Posted June 19, 2012 I was redoing Momoko's eyes last night since one of them looked like they were coming loose. Goodness it took me forever to get them in ^^;;; I guess it doesn't help that the twin-snow eyes don't have anything to hold onto on the back like Volks eyes do. That and the Twin-Snow eyes even when pushed all the way against the eye hole still leave a bit of a gap so I kept accidentally pushing the silicone ear plugs too much cause it to poke out from the opening~ But I finally got them in and she's looking good again

It's always been one of my fears that if I unglue the default eyes, that I'd never be able to put them back in the right way again. Then they'd never look as good as they could be ever again. shinegamix Posted June 19, 2012 when putting the head back on to the body. the vinyl moves and the putty come loose from the sockets. which is a pain making my triumphant return
juu-yuki Posted June 19, 2012 when putting the head back on to the body. the vinyl moves and the putty come loose from the sockets. which is a pain This. And somehow I always end up squeezing the head a bit when trying to put the head cap back on which moves the putty + eyes. Innocentsake Posted June 20, 2012 And somehow I always end up squeezing the head a bit when trying to put the head cap back on which moves the putty + eyes. T^T Hehe I did that too! It took forever, but I was finally happy that Momoko looked like Momoko again Ahh...that's scary. It's always been one of my fears that if I unglue the default eyes, that I'd never be able to put them back in the right way again. Then they'd never look as good as they could be ever again. T___T Well since Momoko's an 06 head she has never had any eyes glued in her. This was just me readjusting her eyes with the putty I'd already used. Though I'll end up experiencing glued in eyes once Saber Nero arrives ^^;;; I want to switch out her eyes when I get her so that will be a pain~

milkytea Posted July 8, 2012 I'm having issues with the eyes in my Ms. Mariko. They keep falling into her head. e_e I'm constantly removing her headcap to push the eyes forward and try to smooth the silicone earplugs to hold better, but it keeps happening. DefectiveAngel Posted August 27, 2012 Bleh I hate changing eyes with a passion. But I've tried Volks putty and personally I think it's a waste of money. I couldn't get it to work right at all, unless there is some trick to using it I'm missing I say it's crap and not worth getting. This is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/Loctite-1087306-2-Ounce-Fun-Tak-Mounting/dp/B001F57ZPW I don't know how approved it is for holding DD eyes in place because of the blue color, but it does work. When I use it my girls eyes won't budge. Plus it seems good to reuse over and over. Also after some trial and error I have it placed in the head just right and I can just pop the eyes out and switch them much easier now.
archangeli Posted August 30, 2012 I just made a real-time video showing me removing DD Rise Kujikawa's default eyes, and puttying in some new ones. Archangeli.net | Twitter: @MsArchangeli | YouTube: Archangeli
archangeli Posted February 20, 2013 Made a new video showing the removal of Sakura Matou's default eyes. Since she has an older "hard vinyl" head this may be of interest to those of you who are trying to remove the eyes out of an older character model. It was basically the same process as removing Rise's eyes, with the exception that the headcap is a pain in the *$% to remove! puxlavoix Posted February 28, 2013 I've been using this method for a while now, it's a breeze. Normally it won't take more than a couple of minutes. Its in spanish but the pictures are self explanatory http://www.urikosddwonderland.com/tutorial-quitar-poner-ojos/
archangeli Posted February 28, 2013 I've been using this method for a while now, it's a breeze. Normally it won't take more than a couple of minutes. Its in spanish but the pictures are self explanatory http://www.urikosddwonderland.com/tutorial-quitar-poner-ojos/ If you're comfortable using thinner, it does work. That's how UltimaKnight removed the eyes from his Sakura Matou also. I just don't want to take the chance of accidentally getting any onto a faceup, which is why I prefer to work without it to start off. To be honest, I've never needed to use thinner to remove the eyes from any of my DD's. Archangeli.net | Twitter: @MsArchangeli | YouTube: Archangeli
SakuraSylph Posted March 1, 2013 Although it isn't strictly necessary for getting the eyes out, using thinner will be really helpful in cleaning all the glue gook out of the head. I tend to like getting rid of all the residue and making the vinyl inside totally clean before puttying in new eyes. The hotglue residue is so sticky that I'm not sure how I'd do that without the thinner, actually. Using the Mineshima carving knife that Volks recommends, it would be difficult to get any thinner onto the faceup by accident. SakuraSylph
gaiaswill Posted April 10, 2013 I've only ever had trouble getting eyes out from resin. Thinner definitely helps in that case. I can definitely understand why the older harder vinyl would be more difficult. From vinyl, half of the time, it just kind of pops right out if I squeeze the head such that it deforms the eyewells a bit. The other half, squeezing + a hair dryer will do the trick. I use Mack's silicone earplugs. I've heard it damages silicone ("soft glass") eyes since silicone bonds with itself over time, or something like that. I just happen to only use glass and acrylic eyes anyway, which do not appear to have this issue. I am unsure about possible reactions with urethane eyes. enderchest Posted September 25, 2018 my vmf50 has like a casing around the eyes? does that mean i can't change them?
Tira Posted October 5, 2018 my vmf50 has like a casing around the eyes? does that mean i can't change them? VMF50 dolls are by Obitsu, not Volks, so you'd probably be better off asking about her in that subforum. To answer this specific question, it just means she has an eye pocket head. Parabox has a tutorial for those types of heads.
