Edit: I caved and bought the Normal skin one, plus a skirt and top. I really like this ala-carte fullset concept, especially for one of the only fullsets I've ever loved. Congrats! I also really liked the ala-carte concept as well, allows for more versatility in what you want your doll to wear. Also better on the wallet lol, I skipped out on clothes for now. PlasticJester Posted June 7, 2024 As I await my girl, I thought I'd ask: What bodysuits fit Dollbot? I know they're kinda MDD sized, but I don't know how similar they are proportionally, and don't wanna make her look bad...
PlasticJester Posted June 12, 2024 My girl arrived today! I'll send pictures later, but right now: I love her, but I am pretty unimpressed with the hand pegs. They tend to pop off the paddle part of the frame if you look at it wrong. Besides that, her body shape is soooo cute, and I think an S bust body would be great for an androgynous character?

AwkwardMango Posted November 9, 2024 Forgot to post this here but my girl arrived and has been living here a while now and even got to go to Disney land! I will say I feel like the joints are a little more on the looser side but not to Imomo's level of looseness. Just enough to where her legs pop off sometimes, though that could be due to the thighs thickness as well. I'm also happy that they have released a bunch of Black Diamond option parts including hands, the bust and torso, especially since the full dolls came with the uni torso.
PlasticJester Posted November 9, 2024 What a cutie! I adore the Kaya headsculpt so much, it's really unique. Love her with the blonde/orange hair!
MoiBakaDesu Posted March 10 So I am almost glad that Dollbot's new boy is already sold out, because they had me damn tempted just by the fact that he has the same name and even the same hair as my OC child of my two fav boys ... the coincidence was almost uncanny. What held me back was that they didn't sell him as a fullset. I don't really need more dolls though, and while I think the overall sculpt of the body is very nice I am not a fan of that gigantic knee-gap that the Dollbot bodies have. Did anyone here snatch themselves a boy?

T^T All the girl bodies are sold out too lol, I was considering using one of their bodies to shell my avatar in an online game at some point, but I keep putting it off! I really like the Dollbot bodies too! I heard they were a more poseable alternative to MDDs, and now they might have male bodies that are more accessible too lol! AwkwardMango Posted March 11 Glad they are starting to get into making boys, now if only we could get them to make 1/3 bodies as well. I will say, I wish they weren't on a uni torso as that restricts upper body movement a fair bit. Spoiler

But yeah, he was gone in a flash, might have been even during the first day, I only checked in two days after the start of the preorders. I wonder about the poseability though? Maybe it is just these pictures, but the Dollbot bodies look a bit more stiff to me on pictures than MDD, at least when we talk about v.2 MDD.
PlasticJester Posted March 11 I have a Dollbot and yea, the big knee-gap thing is ugly, but in general I really like the posing and the more mature body compared to an MDD!
finnleo Posted May 10 Since I did get the latest twosome from DollBot mainly out of curiosity (third time was the charm), since the DBCm body has also thinner thighs as a difference besides the torso. My curosity was how the thinner thighs would work with the female torso, and thus this photo came about, if anybody else is curious about it: haruaki000 Overall the difference isnt as big visually than with between the MDD and MDDmochi, but there is some. Also the thighs arent really meant to be used with the female torso so they are a bit more wiggly in their place than the normal female thighs. but they do work with some patience and do follow the curves of the lower torso. Still annoyingly the only way to get these bits was with the Haruto doll. but maybe the separate parts will come up at some point. anyhoo, back to lurk...
cheerycherry Posted June 23 Not that I'm complaining, but why are Dollbot's newest full doll releases significantly cheaper than the oldest ones? 35,200 (for the platinum skin tone) to 25,300 is a pretty significant drop. Also, they've opened a booth account DOLLBOT - BOOTH where you can preorder their newest 25,300 release (no boy body in this one unfortunately). Seems like a good deal to me, though I'm not currently looking for a new doll.
finnleo Posted June 23 (edited) Well, i've got a few theories about the price drop. One of them is that priced at 38500yen for a body + prepainted head (Price for the Alicias) you were awfully close to the same price as a current MDD-mochi + unpainted head from Volks. and unfortunately the fit and finish at that price point isnt there on the dollbot side. Yes, its a different style of product for posing, but once you've posed around with both, you'll probably understand what I mean. And Volks's stuff oddly enough still has a made in japan text (since volks still has their own foundry apparently), and dollbot stuff is made in china. so a 10k+ yen price cut brings them much closer to a better actual value proposition in terms of what other options are out there. So, maybe its agressive pricing to be competitive, or they just suddenly broke even with the main production molds and can afford to slash the price. My only main gripe is that all recent releases for the girls have all been the L-bust unitorso, and i've had to purchase separate bits for some variation. But, still waiting on getting my Futaba and the latest outfits to come out of customs limbo for two weeks now, since the local post has been a bit hissy about stuff coming in from japan lacking "Safety information" and quarantining boxes for weeks "while they get the info" they need. finnleo Posted July 3 (edited) I'd also keep a look on their twitter/x Since they seem to be in a weird situation that the character dolls are the only full thing they sell at the moment, and the occasional re-issues seem to have only been announced there and not on the website news bit. Also a reminder that the dolls are sold nude, and wigs and outfits are sold separate. Currently it looks like they release a new character doll every two or three months or so, and they just did the Futabas so the next one's might be a few months away. Also dont know if they might have a frame update coming since Asachanchi who's has a finger in designing the frame, has teaser pictures of "DollBot 2.0" on their twitter but Im not sure if thats just for their own aftermarket sales, or towards the doll project. Janeway Posted July 17 I just ordered there parts in tan to build there body. I was wondering what company has the best matching color?
finnleo Posted July 17 If it helps, Archeo's comparison post has a twitter link comparing black diamond to volks tan, and I can confirm compared to my own volks tan mdd that the Dollbot tan is a quite a bit more orange in nature versus the brownish volks, so thats one feature to look for. I havent really seen tan hybrids on twitter (not the best sample size, but still...), Whenever there is a tan dollbot its usually a Kaya. the few non-kaya's I've seen seem to be with owners that do paint-matching and dying so its difficult to make assumptions with those. Again its a bit awkward that dollbot does not sell heads separate like they used to at one point, and their parts sales seem to focus more on customization and/or spares for the occasional character releases.
finnleo Posted July 23 (edited) A bit of a quick update, it looks like the basic DB02 head is back on the menu at DollBot at 3,3k yen, however only in platina at the moment for some weird reason. But at least thats something in this regard. Also while writing this, the male body was put on sale at 20,9k Yen for the unitorso, so anybody interested, the chance is now while stock lasts. At least haruto sold out faster than amane during release. No complete female bodies at the moment for some reason. Edited July 23 by finnleo
0bsequi0us Posted July 23 I admit I've been slightly put off by the dollbot bodies, but seeing that they had a boy body available for purchase... I can't resist a new (to me lol) boy body. 😤 The thing that has me apprehensive is probably that they resemble Imomodoll bodies (in pictures at least) and while I'm an Imomodoll apologist it's only because of their price point. I'm sorta hoping that it's just a look thing and in hand they feel higher quality and more competently designed. Can any owners of both Imomodoll and Dollbot confirm or deny? Either way I already bought one so I guess I'll find out 😂 Pixel art by @PlasticJester !
finnleo Posted July 24 (edited) If you can get a imomo 1/4 sized base body from dolk for 52$ ... Before shipping the dollbot body is about 145$ with current exchange rates. Looking at the imomo frame on dolks site, the dollbot one is much more sturdy at the spine with an extra point of articulation (not that the unitorso allows that), it has shoulders that can move back and forth. I think the kneas might have a little more articulation. And also full spare part coverage where you can get the frame pieces separate from the vinyl ones -- Which is a good thing, since even though I havent had any issues, i've seen a few posts on twitter of snapped joints. Are these features that people will appreciate for the extra 90$ I dont know, If someone is getting just a static display piece then probably not. Compared to Volks and Obitsu based things id say the price point is more accurate setting dollbot offerings below the Parabox 40cm, based on personal experience. MoiBakaDesu Posted July 24 I do wonder, how easy would it be to mod the neck adapter? Are there any adapters out there on Taobao that would work with DDHs or Imomo heads for example?
finnleo Posted July 24 (edited) For volks DD heads the adaptor just screws in, its tight but it works. it also takes a good hold of the Obitsu style heads as well. So for those two no modifications are needed. but dont know if long term it would stretch the hole on Volks heads, however a dollbot head is not wobbly on a volks neck piece. Tierparkzone Posted July 25 19 hours ago, MoiBakaDesu said: I do wonder, how easy would it be to mod the neck adapter? Are there any adapters out there on Taobao that would work with DDHs or Imomo heads for example? I have tested the Dollbot head adapter with my Imomo Tiamat head before. It screws in without issue and is stable, but the socket (the bit where the neck of the vinyl bust rests inside) in the Tiamat head is fairly small so the adapter sits low and gives the doll the appearance of a very long neck. You can probably fix that by cutting down the washer bit of the adapter so it ends up sitting higher. I don't know if the sockets of Imomo heads are all the same size or if they vary between sculpts. On heads with larger sockets, you might get away without having to cut anything. It's likely you might run into similar issues with some DD heads, since socket size differs a lot between sculpts. 1 Photo Story - Photo Thread - make your own signature like this
