little sister versions of nico, mai, and mel

Nico was actually the SD version of SDM-F-29 (fairy head) or SDM-F-59 https://ningyobingo.com/NeoAngelDen/heads/msd-f59.php (human head), while Mai was the SD version of SDM-F-33 https://ningyobingo.com/NeoAngelDen/heads/msd-f33.php . As far as I'm aware, Mel is her own sculpt, though.

Momo and Hina are also their own sculpts to my knowledge, but Noa was actually the SDM version of SD-F-67 https://ningyobingo.com/NeoAngelDen/heads/sd-f67.php (although I hear 67 called "big Noa" from time to time, despite 67 predating Noa by about a year iirc)

Coco, Saki, and Chiyo (SD) were the set of SD10 standards before Mai, Nico, and Mel came out. I'm delighted to see them in MSD form 👀👀 I have 3 Coco FCS sculpts in my collection (SD-F-60) and I'm eager for the SDM heads to join the full choice lineup in the next couple of years.

ah, i see!! thanks so much, i still have so much to learn when it comes to sds... nico's true msd counterpart is such a cutie!!! i do still think that hina/momo/noa share features with nico/mai/mel that give a 'little sister' feeling, even if it was unintentional on volks' part... so it'll just be my personal little headcanon, lol C-:

So lately I rapidly switched from "Lukewarm on Super Dollfies" to "want one super badly", lol. I'm trying to keep my eyes peeled for a fixer-upper secondhand. I like the faceups Volks does, but I wanna try my hand at something more adventurous someday!

So, almost immediately after my post about Mel being discontinued, I ended up finding an extremely nice person on Instagram that was selling their Lucia! Lucia was the Volks SD sculpt that was always the "pie in the sky" sculpt since she was limited, so I was so hyped to find her! She's got a little chip in her eye makeup and I think that one of her prior owners might have changed out the body for a SD13 because of the different knees and hands, but she was too beautiful to pass up. I'm so in love with her, she's so gorgeous in person! She's also extremely HEAVY omg. I thought my Myou doll would prepare me for the weight of resin but nope. I went to change one of my DD's skirt after handling her and my DD felt like a feather in comparison! I have a newfound respect for the old school lolitas that would carry around a whole SD in a matching coord with them all day because carrying her around in my noodle arms feels like lifting weights lol.

20240928_182930.jpg.24b33bd19ca287c439e14a3eecea90d4.jpg

Her leg joints are a little finicky and like to pop out of the sockets when posing since they're a tad loose and don't have the double joints that a lot of modern bjds have, but it weirdly gives her a bit of a charming vintage feel lol. I will likely end up restringing her somewhat soon though, which is a little intimidating since I've only ever had to restring my 1/6 and 1/12 bjds.

I've noticed that Dollyteria has a huge selection of SDs currently! Their prices range a lot, but I've seen a lot of nude ones in the 30,000-50,000 yen range if that interests you.

An update on this since I don't think I ever mentioned here: I did in fact find a great deal on Dollyteria! Specifically, an MSD Schulze plus body for about 85 dollars. He's one of the School heads, and came with a faceup much more intact than the product photos led me to believe! So now he's named Isshō and he's my special boy <3

P6hl4VI.jpeg

Here he is, ft some very temp eyes, wig, and clothes while I wait for things to arrive! My girlfriend says he looks like Howl at the moment.

There are lots of second hand SD around but I'd be really worried about where they were kept. I don't know if UV damage is reversible (or even if it matters).

I've not handled my SD Mytyl for ages. She just sits on her bookshelf in the dark hallway. Towa covets her outfit. We have a few SD outfits because they look great on DDdy like Towa and Yor Forger.

There aren't a huge number of SD I really like but I just knew I had to acquire Mytyl as soon as her lottery was announced.

My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number.

I welcomed a new SD a few days ago, so I’m at 6 now. He’s the new 2024 version of Reisner (Shadow of Captain II) who was only available to attendees of the SD cruise in November, so both him and the cruise made nice birthday presents for me.

He’s not my first doll of this size, but he is my first SD17, and so all of my SDs are still different types.

DSC_5468.jpeg.6180fd2af7ebc9dbdc547ec5296aa690.jpeg

I’m not sure yet how I want him to look (I didn’t give it much thought when I entered for cruise entry because I genuinely did not expect to win, I just really like Reisner) so he’s going to stay in his awful pleather fullset for just a little while longer.

I also really like the new Macha and Yumepi. The owner photos from Dolpa have been really cute, so good luck to anyone trying for their lottery next month. It seemed pretty brutal - Macha/Yumepi and BtSSB are a double threat and their outfits and faceups being as elaborate as they are (first time seeing a non oneoff release with rhinestones/glitter as part of the makeup) is certainly one reason why the numbers are low. I did prefer their first release with Pink House though in terms of faceups and fullset coordination.

Wow, congrats on your big guy! He's gorgeous! I know very little about Oath of the Silver Coin, but I know dolls from that line are really popular!

I wanna try my hand at Yumepi, but it would be my first time ever going for something like that- I've only ever bought Volks dolls either secondhand or as blank heads/bodies. I'm not really expecting a miracle to happen for me.

In other news, my kips for Isshō arrived from Volks! I've never sueded or kipped any of my dolls before, but I think he has a lot more friction in his joints now! Especially his head, which before looked downwards a bit too easily for my liking. I actually really want to shell his dad I've been writing for lately, Junpei, but I'm struggling to find SD-SD13 sized doll heads that look mature enough to depict an adult man. I don't want him to be over 60cm so the height difference between a tall adult and short 14 year old is about correct. Anyone have any ideas for Super Dollfie head sculpts that wouldn't look bizarre when I slap facial hair on them?

It looks like the actual order page for the BTSSB girls is up! (lottery entry period starts on Jan 18): https://dollfie.ec.volks.co.jp/category/D_241208_DP52_BABY/

I've never bought a doll through lottery before either, so I'm a little bit intimidated. Is it true that they now charge the full amount up front before the winners are selected and refund the money if you lose? It seems like they don't accept Paypal for lottery items either, so I'm going to feel a bit anxious about entering.

With that said I wish anyone going for them or the outfits good luck! May all Macha & Yumepi wanters be Macha/Yumepi havers!

I've never entered the lottery either, so some advice from experts would be much appreciated!

Yes, they put an authorization on your card when you enter, and cancel it if you lose.

Yes, they stopped accepting PayPal for lottery items and pre-orders awhile back.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Oh, I see. Thank you for clarifying! So you only get charged if you win?

Typically they put the authorization for the charge on, it drops off for a few weeks, and then if you win it reappears.

That may vary by card company.

Finally got around to unboxing my first ever Volks Super Dollfie—Ariel! I’ve been a Dollfie Dream guy since 2009 but I had to get the Princess of Atlantica! She’s breathtaking in person, I can’t wait to photograph her in her fin!

Ariel is a beautiful sculpt. Don't be afraid to try her in other red wigs.

There are some photos of mine dresses in a punk look with a straight red wig here:

Thank you, she looks great! Ariel, along with the Mermaids of Mermaid Melody, are my favorite characters so I will keep her in character haha! I do plan on commissioning more outfits for her though (especially her pink ballgown)!

Beautiful! My Ariel is in transit to me as I type and I am so excited to add her in with my mostly DD collection too! Her blue dress is absolutely beautiful <3

My Yumepi is here! I'm going to get her repainted eventually but for now I'm enjoying her delicate sweetness.

The new SD standards, Ena, Maki and Honoka are coming out on the 15th of March for the Tenshi no Sumika fair. They’re very cute, and I think Ena would definitely look at home on a DSD body.

https://dollfie.ec.volks.co.jp/category/D_250315_SPRING/

Yesterday Volks also announced via members only blog post, and then publically today on twitter, that the SDs for Dolpa in April are SDGr Ranma and Shampoo from Ranma 1/2, which is going to be interesting to see. I’m torn because while I really like all the SD reimaginings of classic anime/manga and I think these two will look really cute, I would have also liked to see DD versions because of how much I liked the DD take on Lina from Slayers. I think a Rumiko Takahashi style sculpt would be really cute for DD, so I’m still hoping there’s a Lum one day.

Also, happy 26th birthday to Super Dollfie 🎂

The new SD standard models are very cute! Also, the double jointed legs look really good.

Interesting that Ranma 1/2 will be the next SD collab - I'm bracing myself for more Rumiko Takahashi dolls in the future. I would actually really love to see Lum as a SD instead of a DD, because I think her makeup would look  particularly stunning on a SD. Either way though, my wallet would be in danger.

I'm very interested. originally I thought oh neat, ranma dollfie dreams, then did a head turn when I looked closely and they were super dollies.

I've got a belldandy and an Oscar and really live them so I'm very curious how they're going to interpret ranma and shampoo.

The special site is up, although they did show them on the members blog last week too. I have mixed thoughts - they’re cute, and I love how colourful they are, but I don’t think they look particularly unique sculptures-wise (or like the characters that much..?). Their heads also seem out of scale on the SDGr bodies (I think they’d look really cute on DSD or even SD, though)

But, unfortunately the site mentions they’re for sale in Japan only anyway. Maybe a difficult license? (Princess Knight was also japan only at first though, and then got a later release that was open to worldwide, so who knows.)

I think both dolls look gorgeous, but they look more like SDs cosplaying as the characters instead of the characters themselves. And I agree, the heads are a bit too small and would look better on a slightly smaller doll. Mixed feelings is a good way to put it.

This is my thought, too. They're beautiful, but they look like standard dolls in cosplay. The realistic face sculpts of the SD dolls don't lend themselves as well to anime characters. I really wish they had made them DDs. They would be so cute!

Also, this is kind of an odd pair. I love Shampoo as a character, but it would have made more sense to go with Akane instead, or even boy-type Ranma. This is an interesting release all around. At least it sounds like they won't be available online until May (if I'm understanding the page correctly), so there's time to think it over. But my wallet is probably safe.

I believe volks has a large stash of generic unused/unreleased molds that they use when they're in the need of releasing a SD character doll, they just make it loosely resemble it and call it a day.

(Thats what they did with the nier "DDs" IMO)
