My gosh, you actually did it.

I had no doubt, but I wasn't expecting the photoshoot this soon. I wish I could describe the grin that it gave me. Also, Chitoe is rocking that green wig! More green-haired girls for the win!

 

The posing, as always, flows so well. I admire your ambitiousness with one-foot poses, especially in the trio shots. This looks very much like a modeling spread, and your use of background is nailing it. Unpopular opinion, but I'm digging Mash's bright red stockings, especially with those high boots. They have a more playfully naughty feel than the classier black and white mesh. But, to each his own. Red-bottomed shoes will always be in fashion. 😉

You missed the Zoom meetup where I was showing off the new stuff from the convention, so I guess you weren't forewarned that I got more of those bikinis. 😁

Good braided wigs are hard to come by. And I love, how that green wig still makes her feel like my Chitose. I was looking for a good alternate wig for her, as her usual one is fraying quite badly now and Ronshuka haven't sold this style for ages now.

In group shots it's usually easier to pull this of, as the girls can lean on each other. For single shots you'll often have to break out a sturdier stand that's more annoying to edit out.

Is that a thing? All black doll high-heels that I've seen seem to have them - so that wasn't a conscious choice. 🙃

So, finally! Here's the first batch of my photos from the Okinawa meetup. - I pondered for a while who to take, but in the end I decided on Saki, because she definitely fits great on a tropical island.

 

Day of my arrival, we just grabbed some food and had a chat - no real doll photo opportunity. So for now, just getting comfy in the hotel and letting the others back in Tokyo know, that we arrived safely.

 

On my first full day, I had a lovely swim at Araha Beach, then met up with @XOHimitsuOX, to take some photos. Unfortunately, weather was quite cloudy at first.

And who's this? - It's @XOHimitsuOX's Mio!

She even let Saki borrow her surf board.

And now the sun's out, too! - Perfect!

We also found a little cave by the beach.

Afterwards, we explored the area nearby, then went to Sunabe Beach for a (cloudy) sunset.

 

Day two will directly follow in the next post, so stay tuned.

On my second day, @MagicalRozen, @XOHimitsuOX and I went to Okinawa World, where apart from an impressive cave, they also have a facsimile of a classical Okinawan village. - Perfect for some doll photos.

Apart from my Saki and @XOHimitsuOX's Mio, we also got joined by @MagicalRozen's Ann.

The houses in the village are for show (or souvenir shops), so you can enter and explore freely.

Here, we also managed to lure out @MagicalRozen's Khepra.

These are magical!  Thank you for sharing them, I'm very envious of the locations.  Every place like these around here are swarmed with touristas year round.

Wow cool photos. The nearest I've been to Okinawa is eating at an Okinawa restaurant somewhere in Tokyo.

I miss Banyan trees - they were such a major feature of the landscape in Hong Kong and Southern China.

 

Here's the second half of the Okinawa meetup photos:

On my third day, we met up at one of the many Blue Seal ice cream parlors that you can find in Okinawa and Saki decided to hop out of the backpack for a quick photo.

Unfortunately, I didn't think of bringing my miniature ice cream cones. - They would've been a great fit here.

 

Then, we went for a tour through the Orion Beer Brewery in Nago, complete with a tasting afterwards.

As you can see, @MagicalRozen brought her Himiko and her Ann, and @XOHimitsuOX of course had his Mio in tow again.

 

We then went on to the Nakajin Castle ruins - one of many old castle mounds that you can find in Okinawa.

On the hilltop we had an awesome view and incredible evening light.

 

At the brewery, I also picked up a keychain that is supposed to be a bottle opener, but works just as well as a doll prop. - So Saki went for another round back at the hotel.

On my fourth day, we went to Okinawa's famous Churaumi Aquarium. It was a public holiday, so the aquarium was a bit to crowded to safely have the dolls out. However, there's a lot more to see in the area and we checked out the Tropical Dream Center, a beautiful botanical garden.

The whole northern part of Okinawa was abuzz (aflutter?) with loads of butterflies, and so was the botanical garden. This is, how close Saki managed to get to one:

When posing for the earlier pic, she also got photobombed... 😁

 

This time @MagicalRozen brought her awesome Nero.

Of course, @MagicalRozen's Ann was with us, too.

And so was @XOHimitsuOX's Mio.

 

We also found this (perfectly doll sized) little witch hut:

If we had had more time, this would've been perfect for a full fledged Halloween photoshoot. Unfortunately, it was almost closing time, so we caught final glimpse of the evening light from the observation tower.

 

 

On my fifth day, we went kayaking along a calm mangrove river. - Unfortunately, the dolls had to sit this one out for their own safety.

The following day, I headed back home to Tokyo. Back at home, someone was super happy that her big sister had safely returned.

 

So that's my report on the Okinawa in-person meetup of the Zoom meetup regulars. What a fun trip/meetup!

Halloween is also Kanata's birthday and this time it's her fifth anniversary. Which also marks five years in the hobby for me. - Honestly, it doesn't even feel that long (although, considering how my crew has grown since then, it probably should... 😝).  So far, it's been a blast and here's to many more years with the crew and with you awesome forum people!

There are 13 girls. 😉 ... - Tiffany is just so smol, she barely shows up behind Iori.

I cannot get over how beautiful your Okinawa trip photos are! Saki is such a cutie and very photogenic. It looks like you all had a great time.

Doll Point Akihabara recently dressed up one of their photo booths in a lovely Alice in Wonderland theme. I definitely wanted to do an "Iori in Wonderland" photo set there, but thanks to a hot tip from @ragnamuffin I ended up with another crew member who fit the theme quite nicely. - So a two-doll photoshoot it was. Enjoy:

Time for me to play catchup.

Some of these meetup locations are magical! I am imagining, beyond taking doll shots, that they were quite fun as a group. The botanical garden especially looks like a joy to explore. The shots of the girls inside that brick archway, along with Nero's pictures by herself, might be my favorites of the entire trip. (Although the photobombing butterfly is the perfect spontaneous shot) On the other hand, Saki and Mio look so radiant on the beach. I love how XOHimitsuOX styles her relatively casual compared to some of his AP girls, and lets her be her own striking visual presence. She has so much personality. And Saki was the perfect choice for this trip. She has the right relaxed style to seem at home anywhere. Some of those beach photos could be an advertisement for summer holiday. She really fills out that sundress well.

The shot of all the girls posed outside of the castle ruins is also delightful. They look like they're presenting the sign to us, poised to guide us inside. There is so much good here, it's hard to focus on which shots to comment on. Saki's little 'personal diary' from your hotel room is also a wonderful touch.

 

I never did get around to dressing my girls up for Halloween like I planned, but you did, and they look fabulous! (faBOOlous?) Even my family approves. We all liked the Volks Ghost costume on Tiffany, and Ellie makes an adorable maid. Is Iori a yokai? I wasn't sure, but she is rocking that ensemble. A perfect use of your backdrop for certain.

But some shots are just too broad for backdrops, and honestly, I think that works here. Having your apartment behind your girls grounds them. It's a good, subtle placeholder, a reminder that here, along with all of your other hobbies, vinyl dolls have now been integrated for five years. Congratulations! Not only have you made the hobby your own, but you've used your other skills to create fantastic art with it, and make the community a more worthwhile place to be by both sharing your exploits and taking charge of the meetups. Seeing all your girls together in one frame is... awing. We have imagined it, of course, but with their cohesive yet diverse styles, all at once, your girls are an explosion of personality and subtle interaction, thanks to your styling and wonderful posing skills. Seeing both Kanata and Yui at the head of the table was a nice touch- oldest and newest together- and all of your beverage props. Aah. Props are such a boon. While your ladies seem too dignified for cake wars, I will admit it makes an amusing mental image.

I'm betting Kanata would win.

Iori and Melty must share the same voice actor? I'm not familiar with either anime, but the posing and bubble placement for that joke is spot-on. And what a splendid set- the Volks staff always seem to do a bang-up job, and you made the most of it. Iori is the ideal Alice, not too tall and not too short. I've never seen the DDP be so perfectly suited to an environment, actually, and she makes a convincing Alice. Slightly gothic Alice, no less. Who said the dress had to be blue?

And if I read this right, Melty is now... part of the crew too? Congratulations twiceover! Her fullset used to fetch a pretty sum over here- not sure if she still does. She's got unique styling to her face, and those small elf ears give her a touch of otherworldliness. I'll be curious to see how you dress her when you do, because I've seldom seen her out of stock, and can't blame owners for that when it's such an eye-catching outfit.

Indeed, that was the ideal place for doll photos! Interesting fore- and background, great lighting conditions and a rest area with shade, seats and a vending machine right next to it. 😁

Let's hope, @XOHimitsuOX eventually shares some of his pictures from the trip as well. He took quite a few awesome ones as well.

It's just a shrine maiden outfit randomly combined with a demon horns headband. So I guess she's a demonic (or possessed?) shrine maiden here.

That reminds me, I haven't done a proper group shot in a while. - Let me remedy that. 😝    Everyone is dressed in Cyber Street (and similar style) outfits right now, so they all fit together, too.

 

And while we're at it, why not add a few individual shots:

 

Oh! And our Volks member exclusive 👍 hands arrived, so we got to test these out as well.

 

I also played around a bit with editing and tried a somewhat cinematic style. It's kinda fitting with the vibe of the cyber street outfits - but for wider shots I need more space...

Last month, me and Ellie attended Private Room 34. In line with the season, it was themed as a Halloween Party.

 

At first she was a bit surprised by some of the stuff that tends to be going on in Angel Philia Land...

... but soon enough she was busy looking cute for photos and asking for candy.

"What are you trying to summon here, Ellie?"

 

We also ran into @palmtreefairy and her two girls Reina and Satoko (thanks for reminding me of their names).

So of course, we had to take a picture together.

We also got to take a picture with this lovely girl that belonged to a Japanese owner

 

AP also had several of their own dolls on display to show off new merchandise and some of the One Selection Dolls that were available recently.

This included the new type I body which indeed looks gorgeous:

 

I won't go into detail about the dolls brought in by other owners, as this would go over the scope of a single post, but here are my favourites:

There were some really great outfits in there as well as beautiful girls!  But your girl did well choosing a maid uniform, you can never go wrong with that!

All the outfits looked so awesome!!! I'm also a huge fan of the maid outfit for Ellie  She looks so sweet! 

Also the Okinawa photos from higher up were also stunning. I always love outdoor photos. I hope the trip was good!
